About Me/This Blog
I am a graduate student in the department of Comparative Literature at NYU. I’ve lived in New York for the last seven years, but I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI. Ann Arbor is a college town, the type of place where people walk around on the street smoking weed without getting too paranoid about it. It is also an “outlying focus city” right at the end of the Detroit metro area. I’m spending a month in Detroit to do research for my dissertation.
I’m blogging about being in Detroit right now because I know how much mystique the notion of “Detroit” holds for people, in New York in particular, but people don’t have very many clear or specific ideas about what it’s actually like here. So, for the month that I’m here, I’m going to blog about it. I hope that you find this fun, interesting, or enlightening, whether you are a Detroiter, a New Yorker, or whatever.
I’m glad to know that you found a place to crash. Welcome to midtown Detroit.
